Just remember who you are.

by Al Link and Pala Copeland

Remembering who you really are is not optional; it is the one thing that is mandatory. Trying to remember who you really are is your spiritual practice (whatever form that takes), and actually remembering who you really are is enlightenment. The moment of enlightenment is illumination—the absolute brightness of being. The light does not come in from outside of you. Light shines within you—you are light (consciousness, love, truth, space). “…the kingdom of God is within you.” (Luke 17:21) The Bhagavad-gita, one of the great sacred texts of Hinduism, is the story of a conversation between the warrior Arjuna and God.

In charge of the various necessities of life, the demigods, being satisfied by the performance of yajna (sacrifice), will supply all necessities to you. But he who enjoys such gifts without offering them to the demigods in return is certainly a thief. The devotees of the Lord are released from all kinds of sins because they eat food which is offered first for sacrifice. Others, who prepare food for personal sense enjoyment, verily eat only sin.i Bhagavad-gita

“Offering them to the demigods” means that to attain liberation you are required to do your best by trying always to make every act an attempt to help you remember who you really are, with a view to returning to the enlightened state. In other words, every act becomes a part of your spiritual practice, i.e., your attempt to remember who you really are; every act is offered up to God (your high Self, not a God separate from yourself) as an act of devotion. Demigods are simply aspects of your high Self; they are not separate from yourself.

You serve God in life by remembering God in every action. You offer every action as a meditation to remembering that you are God. This is at first just an intellectual concept held in your individual ego consciousness, held by an act of faith. Faith is belief in the absence of provable evidence or belief in spite of evidence to the contrary. When I drink a cup of tea: I am God watching God drink God. This reveals the true meaning of all divine trinities, e.g., father/son/holy spirit. I am God (the ultimate witness, pure consciousness), watching God (a physical body with the identity Al Link), drink God (the cup of tea). Remember. Just remember. Remember is the most important thing; the illumination will surely follow, not as a reward for effort, but simply because you are aligning yourself with the most powerful attractor field of all—God consciousness. You will wake up, not because you cause something to happen, as if you could control it, but rather because that is the nature of ultimate reality, the nature of who and what you really are.
