The Hazard of a Kitchen Fire and What to Do To Protect Yourself

Protect yourself and your loved ones from tragedy. Put out a kitchen fire with a wet cloth. Beware, NEVER throw water, sugar or flour on an oil fire! See the consequences of throwing water in an oil kitchen fire. This is a professional demonstration, not showing harm to anyone. This is a must see video and only lasts 30 seconds; 30 seconds that could mean life and death for you and your family.

At Fire Fighting Training school they demonstrate this with a deep fat fryer set on the fire field. An instructor would don a fire suit and using an 8 oz cup at the end of a10 foot pole toss water onto the grease fire. The water, being heavier than oil, sinks to the bottom where it instantly becomes superheated. The explosive force of the steam blows the burning oil up and out. On the open field, it became a thirty foot high fireball that resembled a nuclear blast.

Inside the confines of a kitchen, the fire ball hits the ceiling and fills the entire room in flames almost instantly as demonstrated on this short video. Also, do not throw sugar or flour on a grease fire. One cup of either creates the explosive force of two sticks of dynamite.
