Always to act from love and compassion was the message of Jesus, Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela. All of these enlightened giants among men did not resist evil, rather they consistently, in every act and deed, acted and reacted out of love, compassion and kindness, even in encounters with arch enemies including those who would ridicule, imprison, torture and assassinate them.

Martin Luther King Jr. announced his enlightenment to the world in his famous “Promised Land” speech delivered in Memphis Tennessee on April 3, 1968. This is one of the most famous speeches of all time, delivered by Dr. King on April 3, 1968 at the Mason Temple (Church of God in Christ Headquarters), Memphis, Tennessee, USA. It was the height of the black civil rights movement. In it Dr. King reveals that he experienced enlightenment. That’s what it means to reach the mountain top, to look over and to see the Promised Land.

The next day, April 4, 1968 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was murdered, shot to death by an assassin.
